Harness the power of the sun through our premium solar panels and turn that beautiful sunlight into electricity to power your school.
Solar for your School

As an SEANZ member, iGenerate operates in the solar market and through scale is now able to introduce a solar offer that reflects the ideal set-up for schools.
Solar power is now affordable through an attractive seven or ten year lease to own agreement that allows Boards and Management to develop an asset that works now and into the future.
Innovate and Save
iGenerate has, along with our banking partner, released an offer to schools that allows them to make their own decision about operational costs and ongoing sustainability. This new finance offer allows schools to install Solar PV system and pay for the system out of the energy savings the system generates.*
Innovate and save using our pre approved funding* to install 20 kWs of solar power (approx 70 panels) and pay it off from the savings the solar provides*. This system generates approx 25,000kWh** or $6250** of usable power per annum.
Flexible and individual sized according to the school/power use, our solar engineer designs systems to account for 20% of the average school usage to avoid excess export of power. The system will be maintained and under warranty for the seven or ten years, depending on the finance chosen.
Once the system has been paid for then the power savings will contribute to reduced operating costs for the school. Contact iGenerate to develop an individual offer for the school for consideration of the Principal, Management and Board of Directors.
Solar panels have performance warranties for 25 years which means the panels will be there for future pupils to benefit from and contribute to the enviroschools programme.
iGenerate provides the whole of market solution, including design, engineering, line and retail approval, installation and commissioning and offers to the parents to help reduce the cost to the school even further.
To register the schools interest please fill in the form using this link, or call 0800 745 400
*Funding is subject to final interest rate sign off from our banking partner
** kWh produced and savings are estimated from a current Auckland school project. Actually figures will depend on schools location and price the school currently pays per kW. Average price in NZ is currently 25c plus GST
Why go Solar?
Solar panels have performance warranties for 25 years which means the panels will be there for future pupils to benefit from.
Solar power helps foster a generation of people who instinctively think and act sustainably as per the aim of enviroschools.
What size Solar should the school install?
We will talk to you about your unique electricity needs and tailor a solar solution for you. Energy is measured in kW (kilowatts) and kWh (kilowatt hours). To put it simply, if we install a 20 kW solar system in your school, it will generate approx 20 kWh of electricity for every full hour of sunlight.
The power the system generates offsets the schools requirements. We use the term offset because solar power ‘offsets’ what you need to pay for from your electricity retailer. The more solar you use the more power you offset.
You latest power bill combined with our industry leading design software allows us to develop a solution for your area, school layout and energy requirements.
What gear will you be using?
We use tier one panels, (Trina and Canadian Solar) and pair them with invertors like Delta, SMA and Solax. The gear has New Zealand based warrenties and backed by our 7 year workmanship guarantee.
What does Grid Tied system mean?
What it means is that you are still connected to the national grid and your switchboard will still get power from the grid to run all of your requirements, however when the solar array is producing energy the switchboard uses this energy first.
What is the install process?
Firstly we agree on the right solar array for your school. We then ensure the correct finance model.
We then get line approval and engineering sign off for the installation.
We confirm with your retail electricity provider the details of the system
We come along onsite and install the gear which will take between 2-4 days
We commission the system and produce a Certificate of Compliance
Inspector inspects the system and provides and Record Of Inspection
We hand over the system to the school.
The school produces clean, cheap energy for the next 25 years.
Now if this seems like work, relax, our projects team takes care of every step and keeps you updated.
Can the school reduce the monthly payments?
Yes the school can reduce the monthly payments by contributing to the system upfront. This can be done through the capital works budget or through fundraising. We can assist with this with our Parent Support programme. Any parent that installs solar during the finance term will contribute to the reduction of the school outlay.
Does the school have to sell electricity back to the Grid?
Yes, currently, although there are trials in place to allow organisations to sell electricity to neighbours which provides a great opportunity for further fund raising. There is now also the option of installing batteries to capture any excess solar production. This is also why we target 20% of a schools requirements as this limits the export.
Do we need Ministry of Education approval?
The property team at the Ministry of Education have confirmed there is no requirement for approval. The Board of trustees and the Principal can make the decision to install solar.
What are the warranties?
The Solar Panels have ten year manufacturing warranty and 25 year performance warranties. The invertors have 10 year warranty. The racking and workmanship have a 7 year guarantee
What documentation is involved?
As per the offer, all schools have been pre approved, the offer is subject to final interest rate sign off depending on the term and gear chosen. There will be an offer form sign off, finance lease agreement and direct debit form.
Does the finance term include maintenance cost and depreciation?
Yes, we maintain the system for the term of the finance agreement. Post the agreement we can enter a further term for the ongoing monitoring and maintenance.
As the school will own the system through the finance lease, the depreciation will be claimed which will be over the useful life of the system or 25 years.
What reporting do we get from the system?
All of our systems report back through the schools internet connection. This can be cabled or through the schools WiFi. If you would like to display your generation/consumption we can set up a display for you.
