Recently I’ve been looking at Solar Outdoor Lights. I’m always interested in all things solar. What’s not to love?… it’s sustainable, which helps create a greener future for NZ, and it will save us money as power prices keep going up.
The Luci Solar Light arrived on my desk packed neatly down to about 2cm high. Out of it’s box it blows up to form a lantern. I sat it on my window sill for the day (it gets to full charge in 7 hours) and hey presto it shone brightly for 12 hours. It would be perfect for camping, tramping, boating. You could clip it to your pack to charge while walking and use it at the campsite. Or use it for entertaining. It would look great on a garden patio in the evening and it’s totally waterproof, so you could float them on a pool at night.
There is lots to like about this clever device. It’s been created by engineers who are also designers so it has ‘form’ and ‘function’ nailed. It is lightweight, waterproof, super bright, will never need batteries and lasts for years. Put one of these in your emergency kit, along with water and you will always have light in a power blackout.
Providing light to people in developing countries. To top it all off, the company that designed the Luci light are helping to empower the 1.5 billion people in the developing world who still live without electricity. In places like Kenya, Haiti, Philippines and Nepal, as soon as the sun goes down, children can’t study, entrepreneurs have to stop working, women are less safe walking outside, health clinics have to close. Kerosene lamps are the most common solution – but they are dangerous, toxic and expensive. With every purchase of the Luci light, you help fund a programme providing light to these people.
That’s my Christmas presents sorted.
