Yes! With developments in solar technology and increased uptake amongst New Zealand property owners, the prices of solar PV systems have come down. Reductions in the cost of Solar Systems shorten the payback period and make solar the smart economic choice for thousands of New Zealanders . See our blog on Grid Parity.
Electricity prices continue to go up year on year so if you already have solar you are reaping the benefits and if you are considering it, it’s a great time to look at the options.
There are a couple of things worth considering when you look at Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels.
Your Roof – For maximum solar generation your panels will ideally be placed on a north facing section of your roof and tilted at an angle or 30 degrees. However with tilts and modular sections, we can optimise your panels. It does pay however to ensure your roof does not need replacing. Your solar system will last at least 25 years so make sure the roof can last the distance!
Shading – It’s an obvious one but PV panels need sunlight so if you have trees shading your house they will compromise your output.
Your system size – this will be based on your individual consumption and usage data. The idea is to offset the electricity you buy from your electricity provider. The more solar you use the more you save.
A family home on average uses 8,000 kWh per year. If you have a pool or other appliances on during the day you might use more. A 3kWh system will generate 5,000 kWh (based on an average home in Auckland). The more you use of your solar power the less you have to pay for from your electricity company. We can help you optimise for maximum savings.
We will ask you about your heating and hot water, whether you have a pool, whether someone is home during the day etc. Every house is different, We will assess your usage and requirements and recommend a tailored solution. We’ll also help you understand how you can maximise your savings by shifting load to your solar generation hours.
How much can I save?
That will depend on your individual energy usage data as well as your location. But before you install we can give you some figures to help with the decision making. As part of our proposal we’ll calculate your annual production.
We’ll also talk to you about your choice of payment options such as lease, finance or 12 months interest free.
So what are you waiting for? We say make hay (well kWh!) while the sun shines and start saving on power. A quote costs you nothing.
